Fred Wimble: The Successful Businessman Who Never Smiled
Fred Wimble was the first ink manufacturer in Australia and ran a highly successful printing supply business for nearly 70 years from 1867 to 1936. He was renowned as a wit and raconteur yet he never smiled in photographs. Very much a nationalist he promoted Australian industry and protectionism always maintaining that Australian industry could match anything in the rest of the world. He even gave Australian names to type fonts (while using American and English designs). Hear curator of the Museum of Printing Benjamin Thorn talk about the ideas, life and career of this fascinating local character.
