Armidale and Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place
The Armidale and Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place showcases a diverse range of Australian Indigenous arts and culture.
Visitors can view articles of interest from New England and exhibits from regional NSW. Touring exhibitions from major galleries and museums are also a feature of their program.
Traditional Aboriginal paintings are for sale all year round and the well-stocked gift shop offers Aboriginal artefacts and gifts.
The centre also offers cultural tours, and run a wide range of Aboriginal cultural activities in their workshops. While entry to the centre is free, cultural tours and Aboriginal cultural activities do attract a cost. Bookings are essential and minimum numbers apply for these activities.

The centre consists of a state-of-the-art theatre, rehearsal rooms, exhibition space and a large, light-filled foyer. The 230 seat theatre is perfect for conferences, lectures, film screenings, presentations and performances. The centre has two open drama rooms that can seat 20-40 people in which workshops, presentations and small gatherings can take place. The foyer with bar facilities can act as a central area between all rooms and has been used for exhibitions, trade events, dinners and fundraisers.
Whether you are planning your wedding, birthday or corporate event, the Armidale SerVies Club has a wide variety of venues. It’s Armidale’s premier function venue, catering for all corporate events, conferences, meetings, weddings and special events. With five versatile event spaces to choose from and a variety of food and beverage packages to suit any budget, we know your event will be a success at the SerVies. Our function rooms each cater to a variety of different purposes. Depending on your needs we have function rooms with the following features: dance floors; audio visual systems with fixed data projector and screen; private fully equipped bar; internet facility and wireless access available on request; stage and extendable catwalk with adjoining dressing rooms and private amenities; theatrical light fixtures; audio and sound control room; private outdoor entertainment area. Macquarie Hall provides a quiet, scenic landscape for conference conversation. A well-fed group is our business and enables you to go about yours. In addition this is the perfect wedding and function venue. The Metz Motel has eleven air-conditioned en-suite rooms specifically designed for groups. The Red Rover Room is a light filled space with a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering and privacy. Shearer’s Quarters accommodation provides cost-effective accommodation alternatives. The 15 rooms are ideally suited for teams, schools, conferences and private retreats. Flynn Cabin has three separate rooms with adjoining bathroom, outdoor kitchen, deck and party area. Enjoy conversation fuelled by the glow of an open fire. The Cooks Room has a double bed and is nearby the bathroom facilities of Flynn Cabin.Conference room facilities include a whiteboard and projector screen.
Lazenby Hall is set within the picturesque grounds of the University of New England. Facilities Management Services (FMS) manages Lazenby Hall, a 856 seat proscenium arch semiraked auditorium with limited winched fly lines. Lazenby Hall currently hold a public license and it is available throughout the year for external hires. FMS administers links between the University of New England and potential hirers of university venues. Please note that other halls at the university are available for hire also. Details via the link provided. Lazenby has a small piano available located on the stage and a large piano available that is located on the floor area.
The New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) is the public regional gallery located in Armidale in the heart of the New England North West region of New South Wales.
Visitors to NERAM can experience exhibitions drawn from three important collections of Australian art: the Howard Hinton Collection, the Chandler Coventry Collection and the NERAM Collection. Together they offer a comprehensive overview of Australian art history unmatched in regional Australia.
These art collections include significant works by Australian and international artists such as Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Elioth Gruner, Margaret Preston, Brett Whiteley, James Gleeson, Tony Tuckson and Christo, to name just a few.
The Gallery also shows touring exhibitions from around Australia and the work of artists from the New England region.

Saumarez Homestead, a historic country homestead and ten-hectare property, was first inhabited by British settlers led by Henry Dumaresq in the 1830s. Today it includes an elegant, fully furnished Edwardian mansion, built between 1888 and 1906, and 15 farm and other buildings dating up to 1910, with their collections of early farm equipment.
In 1874 the property was purchased by Francis White, whose eldest son, Francis John White took over management, spending his life developing Saumarez and its associated holdings into one of the largest and most successful rural properties of New England.
Bring a picnic and enjoy a stroll through the extensive English-style gardens and Mary White’s garden, with its Jocelyn Brown-style cottage garden, the picking garden, lawns, centenarian trees and the Heritage Rose Garden with over 600 heritage roses (rose garden maintained by the Australian Garden History Society).
The Wicklow Hotel has been a part of Armidale since 1852. Originally named the Armidale Hotel, it is the New England region’s oldest licensed establishment. The Wicklow offers an extensive menu, an impressive wine list and 16 beers on tap, including the Wicklows very own ‘Wicklow Gold’ – a mid-strength lager brewed by a boutique local brewer.
The hotel has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with two log fires for those cold winter nights, and a sunny courtyard for those warm summer days. It’s a pub that caters for young and old, with a kids room for the younguns, and specialty beers and wines for the older ones.
Not only will a drink at the Wicklow help support the town’s oldest venue, but you will also be helping to support a multitude of local sporting teams from Armidale and surrounds.
